THE AUTHOR

I want to make you laugh,
break your heart a little,
and turn you on
along the way.

Gunner Tomei

I write Breath, Blood & Chain, an adult dark romantasy saga about desire, power, and people discovering what they’re willing to risk for a life they can call their own.

I was a reader first.

My sister Linda gave me The Hobbit when I was a kid, and I was gone. I read everything I could find. My fantasy collection became the most valuable thing I owned.

When I met Nylena, she read my books. That still feels like one of the most romantic things that ever happened to me.

Getting married changed the way I read. I wanted more stories with women at the center. Anne McCaffrey had shown me what that could look like. Then I found Ilona Andrews’ Magic Bites in the fantasy section and brought it to Nylena.

Kate and Curran got us through the door. Andrea and Raphael, Derek, the kids, the pack, and the people around them made us want to stay. I loved the feeling of a whole community living beyond the central romance. The novellas gave us more time there.

One novella led to more authors. Patricia Briggs gave us Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega. Jeaniene Frost gave us Cat and Bones in Night Huntress. Nalini Singh gave us the heat, power, and formidable women of Guild Hunter, a series I am still making my way through. Those books became part of our marriage: reading, listening, waiting for releases, talking about people who felt real.

Learning that Ilona Andrews was a husband-and-wife team, Ilona and Gordon, planted another dream. Maybe Nylena and I could build something together, too.

My reading keeps branching out. Shannon Mayer’s Rylee Adamson and Pamela’s Questing Witch books. Feyre and Rhysand in Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses. Nylena’s reading also includes Rebecca Yarros’s Empyrean books, which are still on my list.

Different voices. Different worlds. Plenty left to discover. Those early discoveries still feel like home.

That road led to Breath, Blood & Chain. Nylena has been part of it the whole way. I want the people around a romance to matter. I want women with their own ambitions, families people choose for themselves, humor, desire, and difficult loyalties to have room on the page.

I was a reader first. I still am.

The characters, the chosen families, and the writers who helped make me →

That curiosity follows me onto the page. I love the spectacle of dragons and forbidden magic, but I’m just as interested in the private joke after a terrible day, the difficult conversation someone finally starts, or the moment a familiar touch means something new.

The magic can be impossible.
The people have to feel real.

I live in southeastern Washington with my wife. Away from the page, I’m happiest outdoors or somewhere with loud music and room to dance.

Ritual of Starlit Glass begins the Breath, Blood & Chain saga.
